Having come from a family of artists, I wonder if my addiction to the visual arts might be genetic. My mother, aunts, uncles, a few cousins, my children and even a few of my grandchildren all share my love of the creative arts.
I attended the Maryland Institute College of Art and branches of the University of Maryland in Southern Maryland and in Orleans, France. (Yes, the U of M was also across the “Pond”!) To absolutely guarantee my future low wages, I continued my education by studying theology and scripture which I taught.
As an officer and early member of the Port Tobacco Art Guild in Maryland, I exhibited and sold works locally. As a member of the Guild’s “sister” group, The Port Tobacco Players, I painted scenes and props and did make-up. I’ve recently been involved in teaching art and crafts to elementary school children in Ashland, Virginia with my two “artsy” daughters. Joining the Tappahannock Art Guild as an exhibiting member keeps me in my element. Spirituality, a love of nature and writing are the traits that so frequently appear in the delightful artists and patrons that I’ve met and hope to meet.
